Exploring Further
The school years bring a flurry of activity, complexity, and numerous opportunities for a child with Down syndrome to grow and thrive. With this in mind, DSACO is dedicated to providing a wide range of support, comprehensive information, and valuable resources aimed at helping these children take full advantage of this exciting and transformative stage of life. Through workshops, community events, and individualized assistance, DSACO seeks to empower both the children and their families, ensuring they navigate the school experience with confidence and joy.
Enrichment Lab
The Enrichment Center supports academic growth and vocational readiness by offering tailored tutoring and vocational training services. By focusing on individualized learning plans, this component helps students strengthen essential skills in a way that is engaging and suited to their unique needs, preparing them for future educational and job opportunities.
DSACO offers FREE tutoring to children (age 5+), teens, and adults with Down syndrome. Students will be tutored by our Special Education teacher, Bettie Shadoan. They use the first tutoring session with each new student as an “Assessment Session.” They will work with each student and analyze where they are academically, evaluate areas of strength, and evaluate areas that need focus. Bettie will build upon and track their progress each session. Each tutor creates an individualized learning plan for each student and incorporates dynamic, interactive learning approaches to keep each student engaged and excited to learn. Progress is the goal with each student and our tutors do a phenomenal job of building a relationship with each student and working alongside them to successfully complete each session.
Students will need to sign up ahead of time so that the teacher may properly prepare. If you have a conflict and are unable to attend the session you signed up for, please call the office (405-600-9981) and let someone know 24 hours in advance to avoid an absence fee of $5. We ask that you let us know 24 hours in advance as our teacher prepares an individualized lesson plan for each student and DSACO pays her for her time. Please do not sign up for more than one tutoring session a day, as DSACO would like to serve as many families as possible.

Elementary Adventure Club
The DSACO Elementary Adventure Club is an exciting program designed for children with Down syndrome in grades K-5 (approximately ages 5-12), providing them with fun, hands-on activities that encourage learning, socialization, and exploration. This club offers a variety of adventures that stimulate curiosity, build friendships, and promote developmental growth in a safe and supportive environment.
Each session features activities such as arts and crafts, science experiments, outdoor play, and group games, all aimed at building teamwork, communication skills, and self-confidence. The Elementary Adventure Club is a place where children can discover new interests, develop important life skills, and, most importantly, have fun with their peers.
Parents and caregivers also benefit from the program by connecting with other families in the DSACO community. With the guidance of compassionate staff and volunteers, children are encouraged to step out of their comfort zones and try new things, making every adventure a rewarding and memorable experience. The DSACO Elementary Adventure Club helps children grow while making lasting friendships and enjoying unforgettable adventures!
