Self-Advocate Spotlight: Maddyn Brakhage

At the Down Syndrome Association of Central Oklahoma (DSACO), we love celebrating self-advocates who are breaking barriers and shining in their passions. Today, we are proud to spotlight Maddyn Brakhage, a dedicated athlete, a talented cheerleader, and an inspiration to her team.

Maddyn is currently in her fifth year cheering with the Shining Starz cheerabilities team, where she takes on the exciting role of a flyer. Her hard work and determination have made her an essential part of the team, and her skills continue to improve each season. Whether she’s soaring through the air or leading the crowd with her enthusiasm, Maddyn gives her all to every performance.

More than just a sport, cheerleading has given Maddyn lifelong friendships and valuable teamwork skills. She thrives in the team environment, encouraging her teammates with her contagious positivity and strong work ethic. Maddyn’s presence on the mat is not only a testament to her talent but also to her unwavering dedication and spirit.

Her mom, Monteshia Brakhage, shares:
"Maddyn loves being part of the team and is constantly improving her skills. Her dedication and hard work are evident in her performances, which have been outstanding. Being on the Shining Starz team has also helped her build strong friendships and enhance her teamwork skills. Her enthusiasm and positive attitude are contagious, inspiring her teammates as well. We are incredibly proud of Maddyn and excited to see her continue to grow and excel with the Shining Starz."
