AmeriCorps Member – DSACO Social Club Coordinator

Position Overview:
The Down Syndrome Association of Central Oklahoma (DSACO) is seeking anenthusiastic and organized AmeriCorps Member to serve as the Social ClubCoordinator. In this role, the member will help create new capacity for theorganization by planning, implementing, and overseeing DSACO’s social clubs,including LITTLES (Infants/Toddlers/Preschool), EAC (Elementary Adventure Club),Teen Connection, and DSACO CLUB (22+). These groups meet once a month and arevital in providing socialization opportunities, fostering community engagement,and promoting inclusion for individuals with Down syndrome across various agegroups. The AmeriCorps Member will also work closely with DSACO staff andvolunteers to ensure that these clubs are accessible, engaging, and impactfulfor participants. This role focuses on volunteer engagement andcapacity-building and does not displace employees or involve prohibitedactivities such as political advocacy or religious instruction.

Key Responsibilities:

·       Plan and implement monthly social club activities forLITTLES, EAC, TEEN CONNECTION, and DSACO CLUB, ensuring each group has engagingand inclusive events.

·       Develop programming that aligns with the needs andinterests of each group, fostering positive relationships and social skills.

·       Coordinate all logistics for monthly club meetings,including scheduling, venue arrangements, and securing materials andvolunteers.

·       Recruit, train, and manage volunteers to assist with socialclub activities.

·       Create a welcoming and supportive environment forparticipants and volunteers at each club meeting.

·       Collaborate with DSACO staff, families, and volunteers toenhance club participation and engagement.

·       Track attendance, feedback, and progress to evaluate theeffectiveness and impact of each social club.

·       Organize outreach efforts to promote club participation andincrease awareness of the opportunities available to the community.

·       Foster a sense of community and inclusion for individualswith Down syndrome by encouraging participation, involvement, and connectionacross all age groups.

·       Participate in AmeriCorps training, meetings, and serviceprojects as required.

Qualifications:

·       Passion for promoting social inclusion and providingopportunities for individuals with Down syndrome.

·       Strong organizational, planning, and communication skills.

·       Ability to engage with individuals of varying ages andabilities in a fun and supportive way.

·       Creativity and resourcefulness in planning activities andevents.

·       Ability to work collaboratively with staff, volunteers, andfamilies to meet the needs of participants.

·       Patience, flexibility, and a positive attitude in workingwith diverse groups.

·       Must be at least 18 years old and a U.S. citizen or legalresident.

Service Commitment & Benefits:

·       Weekly Hours: 25 hours per week.

·       Biweekly Living Allowance: $400.00 (gross).

·       Education Award: $1,956.35 uponsuccessful completion of service.

·       Work Schedule: Must be available onthe scheduled monthly club dates and flexible outside those times for planningand coordination. Availability may include weekends for club events.

·       Gain valuable experience in event planning, programdevelopment, and community outreach.

·       Participate in AmeriCorps-provided training andprofessional development opportunities.

AmeriCorps ServiceRequirements:


AmeriCorps members will be expected to meet their service commitment of 25hours per week, participate in required training, and contribute to communityprojects aimed at building long-lasting impact for individuals with Downsyndrome. Members will not engage in prohibited activities, including politicaladvocacy, lobbying, religious instruction, or displacement of employees.
