Alfredo's Mexican Cafe

August 3, 2023

Welcome to the second edition of the Food Critics Blog! A blog that is written using the input from adults with Down syndrome who happen to love getting together to break bread and socialize with one another. Sometimes there are misconceptions about people with Down syndrome that can be cleared up with education and awareness. These misconceptions can be found everywhere at times, including restaurants. Our goal with the Food Critics is to enjoy time together, eat great food and spread acceptance, awareness and respect in our community by hearing directly from adults with Down syndrome about what they desire at restaurants.

This month we visited Alfredo’s Mexican Café on Broadway Extension for lunch. Our group of critics was a little smaller, but they had big opinions. We had seven adults with Down Syndrome attending with a total group size of 16. Six of the seven are contributing their opinions this month.

There are steps leading up to the restaurant entrance. There is a ramp down the sidewalk available making it accessible for people are unable to use the stairs. We arrived as they opened so we were seated right away, which was very nice.

Our group was sat together at one table. Both adult and children’s menus were placed on the table for everyone to choose the menu that worked for them. Most of our individuals felt the menu was easy to read, one voiced that the print could be larger. Addie, Hannah & Emily were very pleased there were gluten free items included on their menu.

Our waitstaff promptly brought queso, salsa, chips and both flour and corn tortillas to the table. These items are complimentary when ordering an entrée. Everyone was greeted and welcomed to the restaurant. One commented that the waitress spoke to her caregiver instead of her when taking their order, but all the other food critics commented that they were spoken to directly by staff for orders.

Different entrées were ordered by everyone. We will let our food critics speak for the food:

“Food was tasty” – Taneka

"The food was “great” - Rylee

“Amazing restaurant to eat at for a meal!” – Josie

“I love the food and the environment; I just really love the food” – Emily

“Have amazing food it’s awesome” – Hannah

“The queso was really cheesy and good” - Addie

As you can see above, our Food Critics highly recommend Alfredo’s Mexican Restaurant on Broadway.

Stay tuned for next month’s Food Critics Restaurant Review!
